Looking for a new way to find fresh content ideas or catch up on your favorite sites? Feedly may be the solution.
What’s a Feed Reader?
Feedly is a free feed reader, which collects RSS feeds (or “Rich Site Summary”). It’s goal is to collect content from sites that you like and display them for you in one place. While other feed readers typically only display text, Feedly does collect content from video sites like YouTube channels, so you can get a wide range of media. That way, you don’t have to go to each individual site in order to catch up.
Feedly grew in popularity after Google Reader, another RSS feed aggregator, was discontinued in 2013. Google removed the service after eight years because while it had a loyal following, it failed to attract new users and user numbers declined. As of 2015, Feedly Pro boasts over 50,000 users.
Log in with Any Account
You can log in by creating a Feedly account, or by using one of the following accounts:
- Enterprise
- Evernote
- Microsoft
This choice is great if you don’t want to take the time to create a new account and remember another password. When logging in from social media, it will not post your activity unless you want it to. In addition, Feedly has a mobile app for multiple platforms that works with your apps to gather news and content.
Categorize Your Favorite Content
Feedly describes itself as a “way to organize, read and share the content of your favorite sites.” After you’ve logged in via your account of choice, Feedly allows you to easily find news sites that you wish to follow and categorize them into sections based on your interests. Feedly will automatically categorized them based on their category (e.g., “Marketing”), but you can customize them as per your preferences.
With all of your favorite sites and sources in one place, you can easily browse and find relevant articles to share on your social media. It is also a good hunting ground for discovering what’s new and popular in your industry and generating new topic ideas.
